Fashion Query

As I'm sure you know, Vanity Fair's 2009 International Best-Dressed List came out today. Looking through the slideshow, I am most intrigued by VF's snippet bio questions such as, who is your style icon, what is your personal style, and what fashion item could you not live without.

Stacy Bendet, designer and founder of Alice&Olivia (left). Personal Style: "Hello Kitty meets Joan Jett."
Catherine Deneuve, actress (middle). Fashion Item She Cannot Live Without: Ultra-thin cigarettes.
Alicia Keys (right). Personal Style: "Slick, feminine, strong, and sexy."

Lapo Elkann, creative entrepreneur (left). Personal Style: "Always be yourself."
Renee Zellweger (right). Personal Style: "No fuss."

Cy Twonbly, artist (left). Personal Style: Rumpled artist. Signature Wardrobe Item: Green suspenders.
Penelope Cruz (right). Style Icons: Audrey Hepburn and Anouk Aimee.

Chiara Clemente, filmaker (left). Personal Style: "Romantic with an edge."
Carla Bruni-Sarkozy (right). Style Icons: Jackie Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn. Fashion Item She Cannot Live Without: Ballet Flats.

What would your answers be? What fashion item can you not live without? Who are your style icons? How do you describe your personal style?

  2. For my fashion icons: I decided to only do young fashion icons, instead of the traditional Jackie O, Audrey Hepburn answer. So,

For their young take on street and red carpet style: Ashley Olsen, Kate Bosworth, Rachel Bilson, Kristen Dunst, and Diane Kruger. All these mix classic and edge in a way I really like. They always look young, and always put a personal twist on the latest trends, in fact many of them set trends. I think these girls are the next wave of fashion icons, and I would like to dress like these girls.

For straight classic, always look good, glamourous fashion: Penelope Cruz. She always looks sensual and sophisticated, and she continues to dress for her age in the best possible way. She knows when to look casual cool and when to look like hollywood royalty.

For being risk takers, but still always looking polished: Victoria and Venessa Traina, Jennifer Connelly, Cate Blanchatt, and Kate Moss. These ladies always get in right without being boring. They have unique style points of view, but no one can blame from for taking risks because they always work.

My personal style: I would like to say classic with an edge, but in reality its "in development".

Fashion items I can't live without: skinny jeans. floral and patterned blouses, v-neck cotton t-shits, cut off jean shorts, sundresses, baggy cardigans, and scarfs. Although thats not really specific enough.

  5. Hi kite, toko, and the (allegedly reclusive) renee! I'm loving your blog.

Staying on topic, while I can recognize what styles I like, my preferences are not necesarily reflected in my day-to-day attire. So I too will classify my style as "in transition." I'm trying to move out of my current staple ensemble which, in terms of celebrities, most closely resembles the biggest loser contestants' workout gear. To clarify this = spandex shorts + XXL tee shirt (not to be confused with weigh-in gear which = previous outfit - shirt, which I reserve for occaisions when I want to 'ooze sex appeal,' as they say in the biz.) A classic summer look, but I strive to be an innovator in many walks of life.

I love Zooey Deschanel's throwback look, and I also enjoy a lot of Alexa Chung's outfits.

I was wondering, is the blog title a combination of your middle names? Me encanta.

i'm in agreement. my personal style is: evolving. but currently i would say casual, young, starting to be a bit more playful.

style must haves: ballet flats, short shorts, volumous hair (must have, but dont have), loose tops, skinny bottoms

  10. Margie! I'm so glad you're following us!

I thought about it, and I have to say that my style icon is SJP as carrie in sex and the city. It's not that I love every outfit she wears, and in fact, some of the stuff is pretty outrageous, but I really admire the fact that she has such a strong sense of personal style. There are few people (or rather characters) that have set so many trends and are so far ahead of the curve. She has a completely unique sense of style and is unafraid to take risks that would normally only be seen on the runway.

And as for the item of clothing I couldn't live without, it's got to be my black cigarette pants. I think the length makes them a little more interest and they go with everything.

    okay that's all for now!
