Looks I'm After

Do you use google reader? Its an easy way to compile all your blogs into one feed, rather than bookmarking and laboriously checking each blog separately. To get started: Click "reader" at the top of your gmail page, and a new window will open. On the left hand side, click "add a subscription," and type in the url of your chosen blog. Google reader also allows you to "star" blog entries you like. The looks below are my recently starred items.

Love the lace up booties with her breezy dress and sweater (mydailystyle).
Black tights and boots take a sweet white summer dress and make it perfect for a winter night out (lefashion).
This girl looks so cozy in mixed blues and black (altamira).

Want to ditch my skinny jeans for some loose fit with platforms (songofstyle).
Somehow Kirsten Dunst's color combination works here, want to try thigh-high stockings for fall/winter (truenorthstyle).

This girl just looks cool, plus I love her hair (vanessajackman).

What looks are you after? Post them!

High Buns

Big buns are catching my eye, and I am happy to see them everywhere. Oh and I'm talking about hair, not butts. Ever since I saw them on fashionable Japanese tourists in Hawaii, I have been trying to rock this look. Kite and Renee know all about my love of this hairdo, but I'm not sure they know that I am not the only one totally enamored. The look is rapidly gaining popularity on the runway, red carpet, and on the streets. It seems that the pulled backed look is the perfect way to show off the face and the clothes. Take at look at the variations of the high bun that are developing, and let me know what you think.

Here is the runway version:

My favs are Ms. Lykke Li (middle) and the model (right).

Fall Looks and Wish Lists

The fall is fast approaching and that means I am going to have to put away the flip flops and tank tops, and pull out the boots and long sleeves. I have two looks for the fall floating around in my mind. Both involve tights, boots, and layers. I am all about tights that are textural or colored (my preference is maroon), paired with lace-up or buckled boots. I am also experimenting with more menswear, including oxfords flats, button-ups, and tailored trousers and shorts ontop of tights. Of course, as mentioned before I am longing to mix feminine and masculine, floral and black, soft and tough. Below is the closest recreation of the images floating around in my wee little head. The collages are also my general fall apparel wish list. I think the two looks can also be intertwined and mix and matched, clearly I am into mixing and matching. How do I look?

Fall Look Number One

The looks are not totally separate. I can see the floral dress with the buckle boots, the floral top with the trousers and the black wedges, the plaid dress with the brown riding boots, the chambray shirt with the black wool shorts, the watch with everything, and the bag with everything. I have no qualms with brown and black existing together. I also have no problem with mixing strips, plaid, and floral, which I intend to do, but did not incorporate into my collages. It was my first time using polyvore, so I had to keep it simple as to not overwhelm my technological inept mind.

Fall Look Number Two

The Answers We've All Been Waiting For

The New York Times delves into the "important issue" of how to stay fit when eating is your job.

Me too!

Toko- damn you! You've got me addicted to online shopping again!

what do you think of these?

The September Issue

Please do watch the trailer for the new documentary The September Issue: Anna Wintour and the Making of Vogue. It will be out in NY on August 28th and will open nationwide on September 11th. It was an official selection and winner of excellence in cinematography award: documentary at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. Along with Sundance, it was shown at far too many international film festivals to list here, and has received rave reviews across the globe. I am personally looking forward to seeing the deeper and apparently hilarious side of Anna Wintour (think a better, classier, funnier, and more important and influential Rachel Zoe, if you need a reference point). The movie will provide access into the life of Anna Wintour and into the life of Vogue, giving viewers a first rate peek into the making of the 5 pound September issue of vogue and all the effort that goes into putting together fashion's most essential publication. According to everything I've read this is a can't miss film that will not disappoint.

To Heel Or Not To Heel? That Is The Question

I have decided that I need a pair of black ankle boots. Nothing unusual about that statement, considering one can never really have enough black boots, but in an attempt to diversify, I have decided that I want an edgier, buckle clad boot. I picture myself wearing this type of boot with feminine dresses and high waited skirts with tops. I can even envision menswear inspired shorts and tights with the boots. Basically balancing the edgier more masculine buckles with softer more feminine pieces. I found two great pairs, both Jeffrey Campbell, and now all that remains is the decision of to heel or not to heel? The advantages to no heel are obvious, my little feet feel no pain, but the advantages of heels can not be ignored either, my little feet look cool and fancy. So, do I choose practicality or a better looking shoe? Let me know what you think.

Please take note that these heels are wedges that are suppose to be easier to walk in, and they are not outrageously high. Also, please remember that I am trying to wear more heels, but I also don't want to buy shoes that are so high that I'll never wear them. Then, lastly, ponder if you can see me stomping the streets in these puppies.

Perhaps these are more than practical. Perhaps they are just cool shoes even without the heel. Perhaps you know people at my school don't wear heels, so I would not use heels on campus. Or perhaps you think they are both stupid and terribly ugly. Either way, comment.

General thoughts on this pair? Curtsey of urban outfitters.

Stripes and Florals

I bought these two today thinking I would wear them separately. But, looking at them on the same hanger in my closet, I wonder if they would make a good pair. Thoughts? Also, what are your rules on wearing vests? So far, I like this vest with tank tops. But, would it work with short sleeves or long sleeves? I know how to ask the tough questions.

shirt and vest: anthropologie.

Shakira Shakira

Have you seen this yet? I know Toko has, but the rest of you must stop what you are doing and watch Shakira's newest video, "She Wolf," immediately.

Sparkly fallopian tube backgrounds are so hot right now.

Full outfit shot.

Shoulder isolation = sexy?

Humping the cage floor obviously.

Rub your belly and pat your head at the same time.

From Latin America with Love

In the process of relocating to Peru, I have been introduced to a couple of groups that I really like and I think you might like as well.

First, Nonpalidece, is an Argentinean reggae group.

Second, and perhaps better known in the US, is Calle Trece. This is rap group...and look up the lyrics...they're great.

Third, and she has a great song with Calle Trece, La Mala Rodriguez.

Tested and Approved

Oh to have wonderfully lush, long and shiny hair. This is what I desire, and I recently discovered that treating my hair with good quality products makes a huge difference. This is a duh moment for the average person, but as a generally low-maintenance girl it took me a while to commit to a more thorough and more expensive hair routine. I have now settled on a a few products that I love, and that have improved the health and look of my hair tremendously. I thought I would share these finds in case anyone else is looking to rev up their hair routine.

I have long dry hair, and dry hair leads to split ends, and it is extremely important to stop split ends if your hair is long or you're trying to grow your hair out. Thus, I need a moisturizing shampoo and a powerful condition in order to prevent my hair from drying out and to stop it from getting too tangled. After trying many different products I found the combination of In(fus)ium Moisturologie Shampoo ($7. 50) and Bumble and Bumble Super Rich Conditioner really keep my hair soft and shiny, furthermore the shampoo provided the mouisture I need, while the conditioner helped stop tangling. The in(fus)ium line has shampoos and conditioners for curly hair and too increase shine as well.

The next two products are my real winners. They are more expensive, but they are super effective and wonderful. The Steam Creams and Oils Hair Oil Number 3 ($32), is 100% organic and it is a miracle with split ends. Just rub some into the ends of your hair and you will see the difference. It also adds great shine to the rest of the hair, and helps with dryness and puffiness. The Original Moroccan Oil ($30.50) is another absolute wonder. It creates brilliant shine and silkiness without any greasiness or residue, and it smells amazing. Both of these products simply make me feel good, and although they are expensive you only need to use a little bit to see and feel the difference, so each bottle lasts for quite some time.

Next to be tested...perhaps by someone else (you know who you are):

Bumble and Bumble will be releasing the Really Thickening Serum ($26) on August 1st. It is formulated with caffeine, cholesterol, white birch, algae, and mushroom extracts and claims to have the ability to boost volume and lift locks. If interested you should check out Bumble and Bumble's complete top-selling thickening line, which includes shampoo and conditioner. Here again, the prices are high, but I believe the products go along way.
